Excessively long reboot cycle

Is anyone else having issues with a VERRRRRY long reboot cycle. When I reboot (to change a battery, or, for any reason) my Captivate reboots several times, consecutively. This cycle may loop through 3-5 times and take 20 minutes to fully restart, or it may take up to 6 hours to fully restart (if it goes for more than 30 min, I usually let it run through the loop overnight). This is insane, and makes the phone almost useless, as most of the time when I need to use it, it is looping through reboots.

I am running Android 2.1 update 1, NOT rooted. I am STILL waiting for the official 2.2 update, in the hopes that it might give me a usable phone.

When I first got it it booted fine. After adding several apps, I noticed that if I tried to update more than 1 app at a time, it would automatically reboot and start a loop. So, I started updating only 1 at a time. This helped, but when I would turn the phone off, or change a battery, it would still go through a long reboot cycle. I am careful to only update 1 app at a time, but now, after I update a second, or sometimes a third app, it will reboot itself and enter this annoying loop process.

When I first noticed this issue, I thought it might be related to some app or combination of apps. So, I uninstalled all of my apps and it made no difference. It still looped through at least 3-5 times to restart.

I know the Captivate has a lot of issues (GPS, no official 2.2 update, etc.), but this reboot loop is the most annoying as it is almost unusable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2.2 froyo update?

From my quick googling, I saw many references last year to getting an OTA update to 2.2

But I tried running software on the phone to update the phone and it did not find anything.
I know there must be a 2.2 update for the captivate.

Please let me know what I have to do to update my phone! I dont understand why its still on 2.1 and not finding anymore new updates

Sound shuts off randomly

This has happened 3 times now, where I have no sound at all. Can’t hear music from any of the players. No ringtones. Can’t hear callers. Nothing. I am not changing any settings and this happened both before and after I have rooted and flashed a new ROM. I reboot and that does not fix it. At least not the first reboot. It takes a couple of reboots before all is normal. Any ideas?

My Slow Captivate

When I first got my captivate it was very fast and I didn’t expect it to stay that way but this is a little ridiculous. When I try to make a call the thing is just like a slug. This problem just started and really only effects my out going calls. The phone is in stock condition with the exception of a few apps (i do have the app killer) that I’ve added but nothing of recent. My question is, do I need to root my phone to get the performance that I desire? And if so what is the best way to do it? I just want my phone to work fast and I wouldn’t mind getting rid of some of AT&T software and adding a few apps not available on the market. Thanks for the help.

I hesitate posting since I am technically challenged and might not explain myself with out appearing really stupid……but here goes
Yesterday I turned my phone off and when I turned it back on all of my contacts were duplicated and the new ones all have what appears to be a sim card icon. This is really annoying, can anyone tell me how this happened and how I can fix it.

Thank you
